Manchester United have put Marcus Rashford up for sale in the January transfer window as part of Ineos' ruthless efforts to transform the club, according to reports. Ruben Amorim is said to have agreed that the 27-year-old forward must leave Old Trafford as early as this winter to help stop the rot and boost his major rebuild.
Rashford's future at his boyhood club is in serious doubt as Amorim starts to separate the players he wants to feature in his long-term project from those whom he can cash in on.
The United No. 10 was a glaring omission from the matchday squad in Sunday's stunning 2-1 comeback victory against Manchester City.
Amorim suggested he had left Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out due to their recent form in matches and training rather than as a disciplinary measure.
But while the latter, United's top goalscorer so far this season, is primed for a big role going forward, Rashford's race could be run.
According to the Guardian, the Red Devils have transfer listed the academy graduate in line with an intense cultural reboot to end a decade of mediocrity.
Amorim is claimed to have green-lit Rashford's exit, paving the way for a cut-price transfer in January if a suitable offer arrives.
The report adds that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is serious with his stance that there can be no passengers in his mission to restore former glories in M16.
He is said to be ready to cut United's losses on Rashford this winter with a short-term pain for long-term gain philosophy.
The British billionaire followed the same belief with his decision to axe sporting director Dan Ashworth just five months after his £5million arrival from Newcastle United.
Whether Rashford's exit will come to fruition remains to be seen. The £365,000-a-week salary on the five-year contract he signed last summer is a major stumbling block.
But United reportedly hope that by lowering their asking price, the England international's admirers will come forward next month.
Amorim played down the situation surrounding Rashford and Garnacho's absence at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
He told reporters: “It is important, the performance in training, the performance in games, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with your teammates, the way you push your teammates.”
Rashford has been a first-team regular since his 2016 debut, and a sale would send raptures throughout the club.
But behind closed doors, the Portuguese boss is reportedly ready to swing the axe. And it's claimed that Ratcliffe will ensure he receives aligned support throughout the United hierarchy.
