Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that Frimpong is a "brilliant player" who would be "an ideal signing for them."

The Premier League giants are looking to sign a new right-back as the club has a contingency plan in place for that position as Kyle Walker begins to come towards the final years of his career.

City will be looking for "long-term right-back options," and at 23 years old that is a box that Frimpong can tick for his former side.

The Netherlands international came through the ranks at City but moved to Celtic in 2019 without making an appearance for the first team.

Frimpong did feature 41 times for the Under-18s and 21 times for the Under-23s but has kicked on and found his footing since joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2021.

Man City are considering a move for Jeremie Frimpong

Frimpong has made 158 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 26 goals and providing 38 assists as he has proven to be a strong attacking option.

The right-back played a big part in Xabi Alonso's Bundesliga-winning campaign, and that has caught the attention of his old club.

City are interested in signing him to secure a long-term option at right-back, and he is seen as an ideal signing due to his knowledge of the club.

The defending Premier League champions are also considering former Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg as another option.

The 22-year-old has become a regular at Brentford this season after struggling to establish himself at Anfield, but City are now keeping tabs on him.
