Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes came to the rescue of a passenger who was taken ill on a flight to Portugal.
Fernandes was travelling with his United and Portugal team-mate Diogo Dalot on an EasyJet flight from Manchester to Lisbon on Monday night. The pair were jetting off to join up with the Portugal squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League fixtures against Poland and Croatia and took the scheduled flight, rather than chartering a private jet.
Fernandes raised the alarm after a passenger appeared to collapse at the back of the plane, with the 30-year-old rushing to help the gentleman when he realised he was in distress. Fellow passenger Susanna Lawson, travelling to a web summit in the Portuguese capital, recalled how the mid-air drama unfolded.
"Bruno was holding a gentleman who looked like he was passing out," she said. "I don’t know if he lost consciousness or not.
"Members of the crew rushed to the back to help. There was a spare seat at the back which Bruno helped the gentleman to sit down on.

"He stayed at the back with them and made sure he was OK. It might have been about five to 10 minutes and then he made his way back to his seat but again very unassuming. He wasn’t looking for any attention himself."
A United insider said it was no surprise Fernandes came to the aid of his fellow passenger, citing the star's humility and compassion, despite his star status and high profile.
"That's typical of Bruno," said the United insider. "He's not one to look away when such a situation happens, he's one to show leadership and care, and to help in any way he can."
The day before, Fernandes had captained United in their 3-0 win over Leicester at Old Trafford, his 250th appearance for the club since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2020 for a fee of £67million.
