Andy Woodman proud of 10-man Bromley after they take point at Cheltenham

Andy Woodman said he could not be more proud of 10-man Bromley after they hit back to claim a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham.

The Ravens had to play 66 minutes with 10 men following the dismissal of Carl Jenkinson for two yellow cards.

Cheltenham opened the scoring five minutes into the second half through Ethon Archer, but Omar Sowunmi headed in the leveller in the 82nd minute to earn them a deserved point.

“The referee gave what I thought were two very soft yellow cards and we had Jenko sent off,” Woodman said.

“We don’t seem to be getting the rub of the green and it was then a long old task, but we actually played better with 10 men and we looked comfortable going into half-time.

“Cheltenham came out, got their goal, which makes it an uphill struggle, but my players gave it everything with blocks, putting their bodies on the line, running for every ball and challenging for every header.

“We got our rewards in the end and we deserved at least a draw, so fair play to the guys and I can’t be prouder of them. It’s a good point in the circumstances and results will turn for us.”

Archer maintained his scoring run after a cross was half-cleared and he drilled a low shot past an unsighted Grant Smith in the 50th minute.

Bromley lost Jenkinson in the 24th minute after he fouled George Miller, having already been cautioned for a challenge on Archer.

Sowunmi headed in Kamarl Grant’s throw-in from close range to ensure Bromley left with a point.

“We threw the two points away in the second half,” said Cheltenham boss Michael Flynn.

“It’s always tough playing against 10 men and you are always expected to win. We got the goal and then we didn’t play forward as quickly, or make enough good decisions.

“We didn’t kill the game off, but they are a very difficult team to play against. We left someone who is 6ft 6ins to have a free header and when you do that, you tend to get punished.

“We should still score at the end and that would have been three points.

“But I have to give Bromley credit because they didn’t stop, they made it difficult in terms of the way they play and it was down to us to get past that.”
