Doncaster boss Grant McCann was thrilled after his side’s late 1-0 win over Barrow in the FA Cup first round.
Patrick Kelly, on loan from Premier League West Ham, sent the visitors through at Holker Street as he opened his account for the club with a timely 83rd-minute winner.
McCann said: “I’m really pleased to get through.
“I’m pleased for Patrick to get his first goal. I’ve been really impressed with him since he’s been here.
“Look, we can’t be outstanding every week, but we have shown real grit to win the game and go through.
“That’s been a real characteristic for us, that grit. We’ve shown that to win again and I’m really pleased with that character.”
Both sides had a number of chances to win the game.
Luke Molynuex came close on a number of occasions for Rovers, with Wyll Stanway making a great save to keep out Jordan Gibson.
Neo Eccleston smashed the bar with Barrow’s best chance, but it was another late goal that was the Bluebirds’ undoing.
They have won just one of their last 10 in all competitions.
Midfielder Dean Campbell admitted: “It’s a frustrating run that we’re on where we’re conceding late. It’s one that we’re looking to change.
“It was always going to be a game where the first goal defined it. It’s disappointing to be on the wrong end of it.
“It’s frustrating with the way that we’re playing that we’re just not getting the results.
“We are playing well. It will turn eventually. I’m confident that we’ll get going on a run again soon.
“I genuinely think it’s just a bit of luck that can change everything. We’ve been on the end of a few questionable decisions lately. I feel if one thing clicks then it can all change.
“I’m confident it will turn once we get that win and get our confidence back.”
