Scott Lindsey says MK Dons looked like a ‘winning machine’ in Morecambe win

MK Dons boss Scott Lindsey said his side looked like a “winning machine” as they beat Morecambe 3-1 at the Mazuma Stadium.

Goals from Joe Tomlinson, Scott Hogan and Liam Kelly earned the visitors victory as Morecambe, who were given a way back into the game with a Jamie Stott effort late in the first half, returned to the foot of League Two.

Lindsey, who felt his side were in charge from the moment they took a second-minute lead from the penalty spot, said: “It was an excellent three points.

“We got off to a perfect start and I thought we were dominant from there and should have scored more, especially in the first half where we should have turned round more goals to the good.

“The players have been outstanding this week and you could see they really had the bit between their teeth. We got a lot of information into them this week and they looked like a winning machine today which is where I want us to be.

“I think we are the biggest club in this division and we need to win these types of games.

“We became a bit anxious and the second half was a little bit too end to end for me but I can’t complain too much.”

The Dons took the lead when Morecambe keeper Stuart Moore brought down Scott Hogan with a reckless challenge and Tomlinson made no mistake from the spot.

The experienced Hogan made it 2-0 after 23 minutes when he scored from the rebound after Moore had saved his first effort.

Morecambe pulled a goal back just before the break with Ben Tollitt’s left-wing cross being headed home by Stott but it was the visitors who got the crucial next goal when Kelly’s long-range shot took a wicked deflection off Rhys Williams and looped over the stranded Moore.

Morecambe manager Derek Adams said: “We had a terrible start to the game by giving away a penalty after just 47 seconds and that made things very difficult for us from there. They got hold of the game, passed the ball around very well and used their experience very well to cause us problems.

“But I have to give our lads credit. They got themselves back into it and created some good opportunities which we couldn’t capitalise on and when they got a third with a deflection at the start of the second half it was an uphill battle again.

“Again everyone gave their all and we got into some great areas but couldn’t find the target.”
