Charlie Adam happy with a good week’s work for Fleetwood

Charlie Adam was satisfied with a point from Fleetwood’s goalless draw at home to Bromley, a game where neither side showed the necessary cutting edge in front of goal.
Bromley should have led at half-time but Cod Army keeper David Harrington stood firm in the face of fine chances for the visitors.
And, although Fleetwood were on top for much of the second half, they could not replicate the finishing prowess from their 6-2 midweek win at Walsall, leaving Adam having to be content with the draw.
“I think a draw’s probably a fair result,” he said. “They came with a game plan and it took us 45 minutes to really get going. In the first half we never got going really and in the second half we brought more intensity to it and created a couple of chances.
“It’s a point at home, seven points from nine this week and a clean sheet, we’re happy enough with that.
“We needed a very good goalkeeper and David is that, he’s done really well this year. When the big moments came, he’s saved us today. I think Rhys Bennett’s block on the line just near the end of the game as well was brilliant.
“The lads are fighting. They’re frustrated in there, I could see that. But it’s been a demanding week, two away games and the early kick-off today. But we have to bring a little bit more intensity – if we do that then we probably create more chances, but overall I think the draw’s a fair result.
“We’re getting better. We’d all like to be top of the league and winning every game. But this league’s not like that. We’re finding out a lot about ourselves and also the players on a daily basis. We’ve taken a good point today and we’ll keep progressing as the season goes on.”
Bromley boss Andy Woodman was also satisfied with taking home a point, despite some glorious opportunities going begging, particularly in that first half.
“I thought we were excellent today,” he said. “I was disappointed not to get three goals.
“It’s progress, you know, it’s a clean sheet at a tough place to come. I thought we were really good, it’s progress from the game in the week to today and a clean sheet, which I sort of thrive on.
“At the other end, we had some really good chances and I felt on another day we would have won that but fair play to their goalie, he got man of the match and that kind of tells you the story, really.
“I don’t think we should underestimate how far we’ve come as a football club. This time last year this team was two leagues in front of us. We were very good today and we limited them to very little. There were little moments the second half when they had the wind and the crowd are behind them. And they came into this game off the back of a 6-2 win as well, so they were full of confidence.
“But my team were excellent today and I’m chuffed. We’re creating chances, we’re looking dangerous, and we’re keeping clean sheets. So, I just said to the guys to keep churning out performances like this and the results will come, for sure.”
