Mark Kennedy hails Swindon’s ‘character’ after taking a point at Tranmere

Mark Kennedy felt his Swindon side showed great character to take a point in a battling 1-1 draw with Tranmere at Prenton Park.
The Robins came from a goal down to snatch a valuable point as their wait for a first away win of the season continues.
Kennedy said: “I thought the result was very positive for a number of reasons.
“Clearly you’re always disappointed to go a goal down in any game as that gives you a mountain to climb away from home, but I’m really pleased with the way we came back from that.
“I thought we deserved at least a point, but I’ll take a point as it’s important to take points on the road.
“You’ve got to win your home games, which has let us down this season, but the big thing for me was the reaction tonight after the Port Vale game at the weekend.
“When we went a goal down it knocked us for a bit, but to show the character we did and the way we reacted was really pleasing.
“On another night we could have won three or four one, but we didn’t, though from a character point of view, tonight was massive.”
Kristian Dennis steered the ball home from 12 yards for Rovers’ first goal since the last day of August.
But after coming close through Gavin Kilkenny and Kabongo Tshimanga, the visitors levelled 10 minutes after the break when the unfortunate Chris Merrie headed a George Cox corner into his own net.
Tranmere manager Nigel Adkins said: “First half I thought we were good against a team who were bright and wanted to play the ball out from the back.
“It was looking good and after Kristian Dennis put us ahead we just needed that second goal and had opportunities.
“It’s a lucky goal they’ve scored as the ball has come off Chris Merrie’s head and gone in the side of the net and that gives them something.
“We want to win games, especially at home, and at the very end we could have snatched it.
“Their goal was spawny and went in, but at the end it hasn’t dropped for us to get the winner.
“There were many good things we’ve done and things we need to work on and we’ll look at that in the cold light of day.
“We’ve come away with a point but not the three we were after, but we are two games unbeaten now.”
