Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes will miss the next three Premier League matches after seeing red against Spurs. And while it is bad news for his manager, it could be welcome news for his loved ones
Bruno Fernandes is used to working weekends but that won’t be the case this time around - even if he is fuming about it.
The Manchester United captain will miss out on the trip to Aston Villa on Sunday (October 6) after he was sent off against Spurs.
He said it was “never a red card” after the woeful day for his teammates who were thrashed 3-0 by their north London rivals.
And while he may be gutted at being suspended, his loved ones will presumably be happy to have him at home.
With this in mind, we take a look inside his family life.
Who is his wife?
Portuguese star Fernandes, 30, met his childhood sweetheart wife Ana Pinho when they were both still in school.
And told Voce na TV: “We were 16/17 years old. At the time I was in Boavista and went to a nearby school. We fell into the same class. He tried a few times [to kiss me] and I always said ‘no’, and then I gave in.
“[It was] at school, it was just the two of us, it was in front of the school, there was a gum shot, that’s it.”
Fernandes now earns a staggering £325,000 per week and has bagged an impressive 79 goals for the Red Devils since he signed from Sporting Lisbon in 2020.
Ana used to buy cinema tickets when the pair went on dates
But he was not staggeringly wealthy when he first started dating Ana and he said she refereed futsal matches to pay for their cinema dates.
He remembered: “Ana has been with me on this ride since we were 16, 17, 18 years old. We met as teenagers, and when we first started dating, I wasn’t making any money as a footballer, and she had a nice job working as a futsal referee on the weekends.
“She used to do three or four matches in a row on a Saturday, and then we would always go to the cinema on Sundays.
“I personally didn’t have much money at the time so Ana was the one who had to pay for our movie tickets. Same with going out to dinner. Even at the pizza shop, she had to pay.”
The creative midfielder added: “When I moved to Italy at 17, I lived at the training ground for the first year, and then she followed me at 18, when she finished high school. From day one, we have pursued this dream together.”
He also said his wife burst into tears after he signed for Manchester United and said tough times have never broken the couple.
Family
Fernandes and Ana married in 2015 and they went on to have two children together, Matilde, seven, and Goncala, four.
And speaking about how he popped the question, he said: “It was a beautiful moment, it was in front of the whole family.
“I was nervous, but she was more nervous than me because when she began to open the gift, she began to realise that something was coming… [she] even dropped the ring.”
His son, Goncala, turned four earlier this month and he wrote an emotional Instagram post about his little boy.
He said: “ Today was your birthday but the gift was mine! Being able to be with you even if only for a few hours is more valuable than you think! May you continue to spread the affection and kindness that you have but without losing that traitor side of you that characterizes you so much.”
His wife Ana also has a big presence on social media and has 124,000 followers on Instagram.
She often takes the kids to see their dad play at Old Trafford and after celebrating her 29th birthday earlier this year, she wrote: “OLDER / WIDER/ HOTTER.”
