Angel Gomes back to the Premier League?! Newly-capped England international wanted by various English clubs after breathtaking rise following Man United exit

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to The Telegraph, the Lille star - who made his England international debut this year - is attracting interest from European teams and English top-flight sides; with the 24-year-old out of contract next summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Gomes began his career at United but only made 10 appearances for their first team; before eventually leaving in 2020. A season-long loan spell at Portuguese side Boavista and three seasons at Lille have transformed the midfielder's career, so much so that he is wanted by big teams across Europe and is playing for England. He could yet make United rue the day they let him go if he continues his upward trajectory.

DID YOU KNOW?

Gomes is also eligible to play for Portugal and Angola and according to the report, his father and former player, Gil, held talks with friends at the Portuguese Football Federation about his son switching football nationalities. In the end, he committed to England and is very much in interim national boss Lee Carsley's plans.

WHAT NEXT?

Transfer speculation aside, Gomes' Lille team are in Ligue 1 action on Saturday evening when they travel to Le Havre. He will miss their crunch Champions League clash with Real Madrid on October 2 due to suspension.
