Casemiro’s wife defended her husband after he was substituted at half-time during Manchester United's demolition at the hands of Liverpool.

The former Real Madrid midfielder twice conceded possession before Liverpool capitalised with two strikes for Colombian winger Luis Diaz in the first half at Old Trafford on Sunday. As a result, youngster Toby Collyer replaced the 32-year-old at half-time, who was the subject of taunts online and in the stadium.

After the match, the midfielder's wife - Anna Mariana Casemiro - posted a photograph of her husband's trophy display to her Instagram story, reminding fans of his pedigree. Although, Casemiro may not have hit the heights expected of him at United, he still boasts an incredibly impressive silverware haul of five UEFA Champions Leagues, Three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey plus an FA Cup and Carabao Cup at United.

During the match, former Liverpool defender turned pundit Jamie Carragher criticised Casemiro, he said: "He's had such a great career and won everything you can possibly win, and it is a sad sight seeing what he's going through out there.

"A poor pass can happen any time, but the second one, getting knocked over, he looks shattered as he's falling over."

Despite this, both Gary Neville and Carragher recognised that Casemiro looked in good physical shape, seemingly having worked hard on his fitness over the summer break. However, nearing his 33rd birthday, his time at Premier League level looks unlikely to continue much longer.

In recent times the Brazilian has been linked with a move elsewhere - with Saudi Arabia a likely next destination. The writing on the wall seems further apparent by the recent acquisition of former PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte - who is nine years younger than Casemiro.
