Trent Alexander-Arnold dodges Liverpool contract question with remark to media at Ipswich

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold evaded questions from journalists about his future following the Reds 2-0 Premier League win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road

Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold dodged questions from journalists about his future following the win over Ipswich Town.

In what was the first competitive game of the Arne Slot era, Liverpool found themselves tested by the newly promoted Tractor Boys in the first half of their Premier League clash at Portman Road on Saturday, but eventually ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a much improved showing in the second half.

And it was Alexander-Arnold who was at the centre of the Reds' improved showing after the break. The Liverpool right-back fired a wonderful ball in behind the Ipswich defence to forward Mohamed Salah, who had the beating of defender Leif Davis.

Racing in behind, Salah then squared the ball to Diogo Jota, who opened the scoring for the Reds. Salah would then go on to add Liverpool's second just minutes after Jota's goal.

After the game and with Liverpool getting ready to depart Portman Road with three points, Alexander-Arnold was the last player onto the Reds bus to head back to Merseyside. And as he headed for the Liverpool coach, the 25-year-old sidestepped any questions about his future, with his contract set to expire next summer.

The Liverpool Echo report journalists tried to grab Alexander-Arnold, flanked by security, for a post-match chat. However, the Reds defender grinned and cheekily responded: "I don't know what you'd possibly want to speak to me about!"

While Alexander-Arnold is seemingly relaxed about his future, his expiring contract should have alarm bells ringing around Anfield, especially with Real Madrid reportedly interested in signing the Liverpool star on a free next summer.

The England international is a world-class footballer, capable of flipping a game on its head with one pass, like he did against Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon. Losing Alexander-Arnold would be an awful turn of events for Liverpool - and losing him on a free would make things even worse.

And the future of Alexander-Arnold isn't the only one in question at Anfield this summer. Both Salah and defender Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract next summer, with it unclear whether they will be offered extensions.

Last summer, Salah had attracted bumper interest from Saudi Arabia right at the end of the window. However, Liverpool rejected the advances of Al-Ittihad due to them not being able to find a replacement for the Egyptian.
