Posted Saturday, August 10, 2024 by Express.co.uk
The 2024/25 season kicks off tomorrow when FA Cup winners Manchester United clash with Premier League champions Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium. Next Friday, the new Premier League campaign commences when Fulham visit Old Trafford to face United, and clubs will be keen to complete business before then.
The deadline is August 30, though, and plenty of activity is expected to be on the horizon in the coming weeks.
Liverpool are among the elite top-flight sides set to complete business as Arne Slot searches for a new defensive midfielder to support his possession-based style of play.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are looking for a midfielder of their own and Tottenham Hotspur are on the hunt for a striker.
Across London, it feels like Chelsea is attempting to recruit an entirely new squad on top of their almost 50-player current roster.
Guardiola rules out one major Man City exit
Pep Guardiola has insisted Manchester City expect to keep hold of Ederson this summer.
The goalkeeper had been linked with a move away from the Premier League champions, with clubs in Saudi Arabia said to be interested.
But ahead of the Community Shield, the City boss has ruled that out.
Guardiola said: “It’s a huge relief that Ederson and Stefan [Ortega] stay. Ederson’s charisma, his consistency… I am really pleased that he stays."
Neto's contract details emerge ahead of Chelsea deal
Pedro Neto is poised to sign a six-year deal with Chelsea ahead of his £52m move, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The Wolves winger will join the free-spending Blues ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Gary O'Neil pens new deal with Wolves
Wolves have been handed a pre-season boost, with boss Gary O'Neil penning a new long-term contract.
The Midlands outfit revealed O'Neil has committed his future to the club until 2027.
Wolves finished 14th last season, despite being tipped as one of the favourites to be relegated.
De Gea prepped for for Serie A switch
David De Gea's year in the wilderness has come to an end.
The goalkeeper is heading to Fiorentina, with De Gea having signed a one-year contract.
De Gea jas been without a club ever since leaving Manchester United last summer.
Martin Zubimendi 'torn' on Liverpool move
Martin Zubimendi is reportedly 'torn' on a move to Liverpool, with the midfielder yet to decide on his future.
Zubimendi is subject to interest from Liverpool, with the Merseyside outfit prepared to pay the Real Sociedad star's release clause.
But Zubimendi isn't yet convinced about the move, as per The Independent.
It's claimed the 25-year-old feels a huge loyalty to La Real and would need to be entirely convinced by the Anfield project before penning a move.
Spurs strike up Solanke deal
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with Bournemouth for the transfer of Dominic Solanke.
The striker will join Spurs as part of a £65million deal.
It's hoped Solanke will plug the goal gap left behind by Harry Kane, who departed the club 12 months ago.
Wolves already have Neto replacement in mind
Wolves have already identified Carlos Forbes as a potential Pedro Neto replacement.
Neto appears to be heading to Stamford Bridge as part of a £50million move to Chelsea.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, Wolves are keen on Ajax youngster Forbes.
Forbes was a transfer target for West Ham United last summer before he moved to Ajax as part of a deal from Manchester City.
Fee agreed for Neto to Chelsea transfer
Chelsea are reportedly splashing upwards of £50million on securing Pedro Neto's signautre.
Neto is said to have agreed personal terms with the capital club.
The Wolves wide-man will complete his medical with Chelsea in the coming days.
Chelsea in advanced talks for Pedro Neto
Chelsea are in advanced talks over the signing of Wolves winger Pedro Neto, according to reports.
RMC Sport claim that Neto is set to sign for the Blues, with discussions at a final stage.
The 24-year-old wants to join Chelsea and is said to have already agreed personal terms.
Postecoglou quizzed on Solanke
With Dominic Solanke headed to Tottenham for around £60million per BBC Sport, Ange Postecoglou has spoken out.
Ahead of Spurs facing Bayern Munich in a pre-season friendly, the Australian has been asked if they are trying to replace Harry Kane.
England captain Kane quit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to join the Bundesliga giants 12 months ago.
And Postecoglou said of the pursuit of Solanke: "I don't think we have been looking to replace Harry [Kane]. You can't really replace a generational player.
"It's fair to say that's an area of the park, the front third, that we are looking to reinforce. We are trying hard to get the right kind of players into that area."
