The middle-distance runner - the son of former Leeds and Manchester City defender Danny Mills - was one of four runners in a calamitous fall in the final few metres of the race.

Mills was on course to finish in eighth place before he tumbled to the track after colliding with Spain's Thierry Ndikumwenayo.

Thankfully for Mills, his Olympic journey is still alive after a post-racereview from the race referee saw him put through to the final.

But immediately after the race he was visibly overcome with emotion and irate when he eventually crossed the line.

And he angrily confronted France's Hugo Hay - whom he pushed in the chest - moments after the culmination of the race.

Hay tried to calm down Mills, but the 25-year-old Brit wasn't having any of it.

Mills continued to berate the Frenchman, despite his rival's attempts to diffuse the situation.

Hay even put his arm around Mills to try put an end to the bad blood.

But a furious Mills shrugged him off before appearing to tell him to "f*** off."

According to lipreader, Jeremy Freeman, Mills branded Hay a "f***ing clown."

The Mail claim The GB star pushed his rival and then said: ''You f***ing did."

He then says "yes you did," as the French runner protests his innocence.

Hay adds: "No it was not me," before he then says "ah come on" after Mills turns his back and walks away.

Mills was furious with Hay as they had a slight tangle on the final bend as the latter tried to push forward.

That tangle prompted Mills to fall into Thierry Ndikumwenayo which led to four runners being taken out.

Reflecting on the incident, he said: "I mean I think it's pretty clear, I got stepped out on.

"I was about to kick on in the home straight and boom! The French lad took me down."

When asked what he said to the Hay, he replied: "I'm probably not allowed to say."

Mills ended up finishing the race in 18TH PLACE with a time of 14:37.08.

That was nearly a whole 20 seconds behind race winner Narve Gilje Nordas.

He said of his run: "From my perspective that was a perfect qualifier for me - going through the first 2,000m in six minutes.

"Nobody in this field can run away from me at this pace so I was just sitting, waiting and biding my time."

Hay was left gobsmacked by Mills' reaction and is adamant he did nothing wrong.

The 27-year-old said: "I'm really surprised. I just hope that I didn't do anything and I will not be disqualified.

"For me, that was nothing.

"Like I said to George, I will watch the images and if I'm the guy that did it, I will apologize.

"For me, I didn't do anything. I just hope that I can go in the final."

Mills is no stranger to losing his temper, blowing his lid after not being allowed to re-run the Emsley Carr Mile last month.

He raged: "It's absolutely f***ing ridiculous".

Mill's old man Danny had quite a temper during his playing career.

The former England defender picked up 60 yellow and three red cards during his 15-year-long career.
