Ederson's wife responds to claims he's been 'affected' by praise for Stefan Ortega

Ederson's wife has responded to claims he has been affected by praise for fellow goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

The Manchester City shostopper has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with champions Al Ittihad looking to add him to their ranks.

City will not let Ederson leave for any less than £50 million and would much rather keep him at the club.

However, having been on the verge of extending in March, he does reportedly want to leave and in the event he does, City will persist with Ortega as their No.1 after his impressive displays last term.

But a new in-depth article on Ederson's situation from Sam Lee of The Athletic claims that the former Benfica man was affected by praise for Ortega.

The German produced a title-winning save to deny Spurs captain Heung-Min Son when he was one-on-one in the penultimate game of last season.

Ederson had been forced off with an injury that left him furious and there were suggestions that he would not have spread himself to make the save.

The claims in the piece were refuted by Ederson's wife Lais Moraes. Taking to Instagram, she simply wrote: "Get better information first, this is totally fake news."

Ortega's new contract was announced in June and Pep Guardiola could not confirm if Ederson will be staying put.

Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday, Guardiola said: "I don't know. He has to see maybe other options. Of course, I would like him to stay but it depends now on the clubs.

"I don't really know the situation because there are no contacts in the last days and it's a question of training and being with us until the transfer window is going to finish. We will see what is going to happen with him."

Ederson signed City in 2017 for £35 million and has made 332 appearances, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one Champions League and four Carabao Cups.
