Kalyne Fletcher wanted to show her support for England but was left with a long lasting reminder of the Three Lions' Euro 2024 final disappointment
A patriotic woman was left with an unremovable St George's Cross on her face after a Euro 2024 blunder.
England fell to Spain as Gareth Southgate's side lost the Euro 2024 final 2-1 in Berlin in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday. Goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal either side of Cole Palmer's equaliser saw Spain, the best team in the tournament, claim their fourth European Championship crown and England's long wait for a trophy go on.
One disappointed fan who got behind the Three Lions on Sunday was Kalyne Fletcher, who painted a red St George's Cross over her make up prior to watching the final with family and friends. But when the 24-year-old blonde tried to remove it later that night, she discovered the red cross just wouldn't budge.
And it wasn't the paint being stubborn. Kalyne, of Ipswich, told What's The Jam: "Everyone is out there facing their hardships in life. With things as silly as this you just have to laugh, it could always be worse."
She added: "At first I thought the pigment had stained my face but as we all know now that was not the case. During the day of the Euros I decided it would be a good laugh and good entertainment for the family.
Kalyne says her friends have "had a right laugh" at her expense
"I'm always trying to do something wacky to make them smile. This has all definitely made them laugh. I had a red cross over my regular makeup and thankfully my normal makeup contained SPF.
"A lesson to be learnt is that even on cloudy days, the UV from the sun is still there. My mum thought it was hilarious. I'm always trying to make others laugh hence why I posted it on social media.
Kalyne's sunburn make up mistake left her rather red in the face
"My friends along with lots of others have had a right laugh in the comments which is what I think people needed after the disappointment from the match."
Despite England's disappointment at not being able to end 58 years of hurt and failing to get over the line against Spain, Kalyne believes outgoing manager Southgate and his men should be proud of their efforts in getting to another European Championship final and creating so many memories for fans along the way.
She said: "I think the lads should be proud of themselves despite the loss. Of course I would've loved to see them win, but to get as far as they did in the competition was nice to see.
"They bring the whole nation together which is what I enjoy the most."
