Man Utd locked in talks with £34m star's agent as Erik ten Hag looks to revamp attack

Two forwards are already set to leave Manchester United this summer but the arrival of Netherlands forward Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna would also raise doubts over the future of Marcus Rashford

Manchester United are working overtime in a bid to sign Netherlands star Joshua Zirkzee ahead of top flight rivals Arsenal and Italian giants AC Milan.

United bosses have made it clear to Bologna they are prepared to meet the attacking midfielder turned forward's £34m release clause. But with a host of clubs chasing his signature, Zirkzee is keeping his options open before deciding his next move.

It's understood United are locked in talks with the player's representatives about personal terms - but have not reached an agreement. Both parties are still apart when it comes to the player's wages and length of contract, but further talks are planned in the next 48 hours.

Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season. And both him and United bosses, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have made Zirkzee, 23, one of their main priorities.

The 6ft 4in star scored 11 goals in 34 games for Bologna in Serie A last term and was called up by Ronald Koeman to his Euro 2024 squad, but is yet to make his full international debut. Zirkzee has previously netted seven goals in 19 games at Under 21 level for his country.

Anthony Martial will leave United this summer, while England striker Mason Greenwood will be sold to the highest bidder. And Zirkzee's potential arrival at Old Trafford would also raise more doubts about Marcus Rashford's long-term future with United.

Rashford endured a miserable campaign which saw him score just eight goals in all competitions and fall out with Ten Hag.
