WHAT HAPPENED?

Cesar Luis Merlo reports that the ownership group of Premier League side Crystal Palace, Ligue 1 club Lyon and South American powerhouse Botafogo - Eagle Football Group - are interested in signing Atlanta United's Thiago Almada.

The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina is the subject of a $20 million bid.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Almada was a part of the La Albiceleste squad in 2022 that claimed the World Cup trophy in Qatar, and has been dubbed one of the brightest stars in MLS since.

In 2023, he was named to the MLS Best XI at the end of the season while also being named MLS Young Player of the Year and coming third in league MVP voting.

He's set to represent Argentina at the Summer Olympics in Paris come July.

DID YOU KNOW?

Almada has been linked with European clubs for two years now, with the likes of Napoli and Ajax previously interested. The report adds that it's unknown which of the three clubs he would end up at within Eagle Football Group.

Almada and Atlanta United are back in action Saturday evening against St. Louis CITY SC. They'll be searching for their second win in a row, while Almada will be looking to bag a winner for the second straight week as well.
