Former Brookside star Jennifer landed Tony Richardson, who would go on to abuse her over the course of their relationship.

Now speaking on James English’ Anything Goes podcast, Jennifer has opened up about her time with the ex-Reds captain.

She said: "When I first started going out with Steven everyone around me was just going on and going mad, saying he's a new big signing, he's the new big thing.

"But to me he was just Steven. I'd never followed football, and I also supported Everton!

"The biggest lesson I’ve learned in life is that you can look up someone and think that because they've got material things they're like they’re flying high and they’re happy.

"It means absolutely nothing and there's nothing that you can buy now that you'll give a shit about in ten years.

"Your happiness, it's just invaluable. When I was driving my Bentley and dripping in diamonds and everything, and I was fucking miserable."

Jennifer has previously told how she is happy things worked out for the best with Gerrard and doesn't envy Alex's lifestyle of leisure.

She said: "It was never an option for me to end up as just a WAG - I always knew I would have a career.

"I have always wanted to be madly in love and me and Steven just weren't so that was that.

"Even if we had stayed together, I would have worked and had my own career and life.

"I would definitely have wanted to do my own thing."
