Bernardo Silva to PSG? French giants take transfer decision on Man City star after long-running pursuit

Paris Saint-Germain are ending their pursuit of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva, according to reports from France.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Le Parisien have claimed that the Ligue 1 champions are putting an end to their attempts to lure the 29-year-old to the French capital this summer. Silva has regularly been linked with a move to the Parc des Princes, since Luis Campos' arrival as the sporting director at PSG in 2022. Campos had reportedly been pushing his Portuguese compatriot to join the club but will now look elsewhere after failing in his latest efforts.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The report went on to claim that it had been expected that PSG would revisit a deal for Silva this summer, but the plans have now changed. With City and Pep Guardiola determined to keep hold of the experienced playmaker, Campos and coach Luis Enrique have now decided to target other areas in the squad this summer.

Instead of right-wingers, PSG will now target the left-wing position with Napoli's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia a top target.

WHAT SILVA SAID
While links regarding a move away continue to swirl in every transfer window, Silva has opened up on his long-term ambitions for the remainder of his playing career.

"I want to return to Benfica. If the club wants me at the time, obviously things will happen," he told CNN. “I was incapable of playing for Porto or Sporting. It's not going to happen."

WHAT NEXT FOR SILVA?
After suffering disappointment in the recent FA Cup final loss against Manchester United to end the 2023-24 campaign, Silva will now take some well-needed time off before he links up with his Portuguese team-mates for Euro 2024.

He signed a contract extension at City last summer, committing his future to the club until 2026. However, the deal reportedly included a release clause of just £50 million ($62m) if he did wish to pursue a move elsewhere. La Liga giants Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the player.
