Antonio Conte on his way back?! Napoli turn to former Chelsea & Tottenham manager with Gian Piero Gasperini in talks over new Atalanta contract

Napoli are eyeing a move for Antonio Conte as Gian Piero Gasperini is in talks to sign a new Atalanta contract.

  • Conte could head back to Italy
  • Napoli want former Chelsea boss
  • Gasperini likely to extend Atalanta stay

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Sky Sport in Italy, the former Serie A champions are closing in on appointing ex-Chelsea and Tottenham manager Conte as their next head coach. The report further claimed that Napoli are likely to finalise a deal with the Italian manager in the next couple of days.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Napoli had earlier considered approaching Atalanta's Gasperini, who recently won the first major trophy of his career as he guided the club to a Europa League triumph. The 66-year-old, however, is now in talks to sign a new contract. With Gasperini out of the picture, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis does not want to wait any longer as he plans to close the Conte deal soon.

DID YOU KNOW?

Along with appointing a new head coach, the 2022-23 Italian champions are also planning to rebuild their squad ahead of the new season and have reportedly approached Manchester United over signing Mason Greenwood.

WHAT NEXT FOR NAPOLI?

The club will hope to end the current campaign on a high as they take on Lecce in their final Serie A game at home on Sunday.
