Bayern Munich are remarkably closing in on appointing relegated Burnley boss Vincent Kompany as Thomas Tuchel's successor.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to The Telegraph, the Bundesliga giants are in advanced talks to appoint Kompany as their new manager and could formally announce the Burnley boss' arrival in the next couple of days. Bayern, however, will have to pay compensation to the Clarets as the 38-year-old has an active contract at Turf Moor until 2028.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The report further claimed that the former Manchester City captain will take his entire coaching staff to Allianz Arena, including assistant manager Craig Bellamy and first-team coaches Piet Cremers, Mike Jackson and Floribert N'Galula.
DID YOU KNOW?
Kompany retired from professional football in 2020 having won four Premier League titles as the Cityzens' captain. Upon retirement, he took charge of Belgian side Anderlecht and managed for three years before heading to Burnley in 2022. In his first season at the helm, the former defender helped the club win the Championship title and gain promotion to the Premier League, however, they lasted for just a season in the top flight before going back to the second division after they finished 19th in the 2023-24 campaign.
WHAT NEXT FOR BAYERN MUNICH?
After a trophyless season that saw the Bavarian club finish third in the Bundesliga, Harry Kane and Co. will hope that the former Premier League legend can turn things around at the club.
