Germany men's national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has announced a 27-man preliminary squad to take to EURO 2024 - but with only 26 spots, that means one man will still be left out.
Sport Bild has a guess as to who that might be, and the answer might surprise you. Via @iMiaSanMia:
The one player that will be left out of the final 26-man squad for the Euros will most likely be either Maximilian Beier or Robin Koch [@BILD]
Why a surprise? There are already four goalkeepers on the list: Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer, FC Barcelona's Marc-André ter Stegen, Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann, and Stuttgart's Bayern loanee Alexander Nübel. If it's one of Beier or Koch, then all four keepers would make the cut - a greater number than might be necessary.
Beier, a Hoffenheim forward, is in a slightly crowded attacking group where there are four other players for two positions: Bayern's Thomas Müller and Stuttgart's Deniz Undav as the No. 10, and Borussia Dortmund's Niclas Füllkrug and Arsenal FC's Kai Havertz as the No. 9.
Eintracht Frankfurt's Koch, meanwhile, is one of only four nominal center-backs on the list: along with presumptive starters Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen) and Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), and Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck. Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton, however, can also play in the role.
