Could Mourinho make a shock return to Chelsea should Pochettino receive the sack? Sources have their say

Rumours of a potential return for a third spell at the club for ‘The Special One’ are being played down by sources of both sides

Rumours of a potential return for a third spell at the club for ‘The Special One’ are being played down by sources of both sides as they say fans should not expect a reunion with the Portuguese manager.

Currently, without a job after leaving Italian side AS Roma back in January, where he spent two and half years, the 61-year-old is up for grabs.

However, insiders at Chelsea have suggested that recruiting Mourinho at this stage would do more harm than good, suggesting that it would send the wrong message under the new ownership.

Out with the Old, In with the New?

The West London side has a reputation for lacking patience and heart regarding their managers. A run of bad performances and it is game over for the coach, most recently with Graham Potter who many still believe should have been given more time.

It was always a risk hiring a coach who has never won anything, and these doubts came to fruition when, despite a dominating performance that should have seen them win, Pochettino’s Chelsea side lost the League Cup final.

As the saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree; a poorly managed club at the top will only reciprocate right to the bottom. Do these billionaire owners know how to run a football club?

It’s safe to say that a change of manager is not the solution for Chelsea, as the same issues remain no matter who is in charge. Give them time and patience to build the foundations.

Billion Pound Bottle Jobs

As The Blues lost the cup final, Gary Neville labelled Pochettino’s Chelsea side the “blue billion pound bottle jobs” after Liverpool fielded a bunch of teenagers who ran circles around the most expensive squad in the league.

A figure that has been discussed across almost every Chelsea fixture this season, Blues co-owner Todd Boehly has paid out over £1billion on new players that are yet to show their worth.

Moises Caicedo (£115m), Enzo Fernandez (£107m), Mykhailo Mudryk (£88m) and Wesley Fofana (£75m) are just some of the most expensive transfers.

However, recent form and performances leading up to the end of the season are starting to show some positive effects of a squad that may just be finally working together well towards the same goal.

The Blues could now secure a European place after a season without, something that was not looking likely just a few weeks ago.

Chelsea currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League table, equal on points, with Newcastle United in sixth.

Their final game is at Stamford Bridge against Bournemouth on Sunday, 19th May.

Chelsea are priced at odds of 4/9 to beat Newcastle on Sunday and if you fancy a bet on the last Premier League round then you can choose between the following betting offers:
