Chelsea's Thiago Silva to rejoin Fluminense at contract end

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva will rejoin Brazilian club Fluminense following the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, both clubs announced on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old confirmed on April 29 that he would leave Chelsea after a four-year stint at the club and has now signed a contract with the reigning Copa Libertadores champions until 2026.
Silva joined Chelsea on a free transfer in August 2020 and has made 151 appearances to date, winning the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. He has revealed his intention to one day return to the club in "another role."
Chelsea have said that Silva will depart following their final game of the season against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge and have agreed that he can join up early with his new team to train with them before he is able to registered on July 1.

Silva played for Fluminense between 2006 and 2008. He left for AC Milan in 2009, and three years later joined Paris Saint-German. He signed for Chelsea in 2020 and won the Champions League the following year.
The Brazil international was named Chelsea's Player of the Year last season.
The defender has been named in the Brazil squad for the last four World Cups. He also won the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2019 Copa América with the national team.
