Liverpool have been told that striker Darwin Nunez is deeply unhappy at the club and wants to leave Anfield.
- Nunez linked with Barcelona move
- Criticised for deleting Liverpool posts on Instagram
- Reds warned striker wants out
WHAT HAPPENED?
Nunez has been linked with a potential move to Barcelona to replace Robert Lewandowski and has fuelled speculation over his future with his recent Instagram activity. The Uruguay international has deleted all Liverpool-related posts from his account in a move that has been branded "dumb" by former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton. The pundit has also claimed Nunez's decision to change his Instagram account means he's unhappy at the club and wants out.
WHAT SUTTON SAID
He told the It’s All Kicking Off podcast: "If somebody does that I assume he wants out or is off somewhere.
“If he’s doing stuff like that, he’s certainly brought attention to it and you’ve cottoned on to it. At least years ago when players wanted to leave they didn’t have all this nonsense, they could have all their own thoughts and keep it under wraps.
“It’s a pretty dumb move from his point of view if he wanted a move to sneak under the radar, or the way he’s feeling at this particular time to sneak under the radar, and nobody cotton on to something.
"Why has he done it? It just looks like he’s going to be on his way, or he’s deeply unhappy with the club.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Nunez is not enjoying the best time currently at Liverpool. The striker has only scored once in his last 11 games for the Reds and has dropped out of Jurgen Klopp's starting XI. Nunez has still netted 18 times this season in all competitions but has attracted criticism for his propensity to miss big chances.
WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL
There will be plenty of changes at Liverpool over the summer with Klopp set to depart after almost a decade in charge, while there is speculation Mohamed Salah could follow the German out of the exit door. Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is set to take over from Klopp and will be charged with building on the success Klopp enjoyed at Anfield.
