Darwin Nunez has raised eyebrows on social media by deleting nearly all of the Liverpool-related pictures from his Instagram account. The forward, who joined the Reds in the summer of 2022, was named on the bench on Sunday as Jurgen Klopp's side cruised to a 4-2 win over Tottenham.

Nunez has bagged 18 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season in his most prolific campaign since making the jump to English football. However, the quality of the Reds' attacking options has meant that he has been in and out of the squad, rather than being a weekly starter.

Following the win over Spurs, Nunez sparked fears about his future by wiping most Liverpool-related posts from his Instagram profile. The only snap that remains is his profile picture, which shows him in a Liverpool shirt with his name and number on the back.

Most other pictures show Nunez enjoying some family time with his girlfriend, Lorena Manas, and his two daughters while the only football-related images show him playing for Uruguay.

There has been plenty of speculation over Nunez's future at Anfield ahead of next season, with Barcelona said to be keen on snapping him up. According to The Sun, the Catalan giants have lined up Nunez as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski as they look to offload their highest earners in the summer.

Nunez remains tied down to Liverpool until the summer of 2028 and it remains to be seen if the Reds will be prepared to sell him at the end of the campaign. He joined Liverpool in a club-record deal two years ago, with Benfica receiving a transfer fee which could rise to around £85million.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently suggested that incoming manager Arne Slot could be tempted to cash in on Nunez with the aim of funding one or two marquee signings.

"In terms of Nunez and where the club go forward now, I think after two years, we have all been in squads where someone comes in and maybe you talk about the first year and maybe say, okay he’s getting up to speed with and he’s improving, and it looked like he was at the start of the season but it has ground to a halt," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"You are looking at it now and after two years, I don’t think there is going to be a massive improvement in him. What we have seen in the last two years is what he is. He can cause trouble, he can be erratic with his finishing.

"I don’t think it is going to be enough to win you the biggest trophies so I think there is a big decision to be made on him in the summer."
