Former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has been linked with a move to Liverpool next season as they line up a replacement for Jurgen Klopp.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Kovac, who parted ways with Wolfsburg last month, has emerged as a shock candidate to replace outgoing Jurgen Klopp as the next Liverpool boss, according to the Daily Mail. The Reds are closing in on appointing Ruben Amorim as their next coach, although the Sporting CP manager denied having held talks with the Premier League giants.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Kovac joined Bayern Munich ahead of the 2018-19 campaign and was in charge of the club for one and a half seasons. He later managed AS Monaco for two years before heading back to the Bundesliga to join Wolfsburg. In the current campaign, Wolfsburg struggled to find form under the 52-year-old coach and after an 11-game winless streak, he was finally shown the door in March 2024.
DID YOU KNOW?
The manager's representatives were recently spotted in London where they reportedly held talks with several Premier League sides. It is believed Kovac also has offers from some Bundesliga clubs.
WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?
Klopp's men will aim for an epic comeback against Atalanta in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final fixture on Thursday. They suffered a 3-0 defeat at Anfield in the first leg.
