Gerard Pique dated Shakira for 11 years before reportedly cheating on her
Shakira has aimed a fresh dig at ex Gerard Pique - brutally branding him "Voldemort" because he "shouldn't be mentioned".
The Colombian pop star, 47, split from Barcelona icon Pique in 2022 after an 11-year relationship, during which time they had two children together. It's been far from an amicable split.
She's repeatedly taken public swipes at the now retired defender, 37, after he reportedly cheated on her with her friend and trainer, 25-year-old Clara Chia Marti. And the barbs keep coming, nearly two years on.
Her new album, titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, features a diss track towards him, as well as another single titled Ultima in which she sings: "Surely with time you'll regret it, and some day you'll want to come back to my door."
Asked by the The Times if that was aimed at Pique, Shakira responded: "Voldemort, that one that shouldn't be mentioned? It's hopefully the last song that I will write about this, and to him.
The Colombian pop star is releasing her first album since 2017
She called her ex "Voldemort" in the latest dig aimed at him
"I felt that there was still something there, stuck in my throat, and I needed to get it out. I played it to the marketing head at Sony and he started crying. I'd never seen a man cry in my studio before."
She also claims to have put her "career on hold" so she could be with Pique, who was playing in his native Spain for Barca throughout their relationship. "There was a lot of sacrifice for love," she said.
Their messy break up has been very public
The album is her first in seven years, following on from 2017's El Dorado. She's used it to "exorcise a lot of the demons that were tormenting" her.
As well as her break-up heartbreak, Shakira was also the subject of a tax fraud case in Spain. She pleaded guilty last year "in the interests" of her sons Sasha, nine, and Mila, 11, receiving an $8million (£6.3m) fine and a suspended three-year prison sentence.
