Game over for Sergino Dest! USMNT star not part of Barcelona's right-back plan as summer transfer becomes inevitable

WHAT HAPPENED?
The United States international secured a dream move to Camp Nou in 2020. Barca were buying into potential at that stage and have given Dest 72 appearances. He was, however, loaned out to AC Milan last season and is spending the current campaign back in his native Netherlands with PSV.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Dest is enjoying his time in Eindhoven and has a permanent transfer option that can be triggered in the next window. Barca are eager to put a deal in place with somebody, as they are ready to offload the 23-year-old defender and bring in much-needed funds.
DID YOU KNOW?
According to Marca, Barcelona have already written Dest out of their plans. They are preparing to let Sergi Roberto leave as a free agent, while funds may be difficult to find when it comes to keeping Joao Cancelo at the end of his loan from Manchester City.
WHAT NEXT FOR DEST?
Dest could have been an option to slot in on the right of their defence, but it is suggested that Julian Araujo will instead be welcomed back from Las Palmas. Barca acquired him from MLS side the LA Galaxy two years ago and believe that he is now ready for first-team opportunities – leaving Dest to find a fresh start outside of Catalunya.
