Bayer's coach is the firm favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, with the German to step down at the end of the season.

Former Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui is wanted by Bayer should they lose Xabi over the summer.

Lopetegui is a free agent after leaving Wolves in August, though his priority is landing another Premier League job.
