Neymar rose to fame during his breakthrough at Santos, where he scored 136 goals in 225 games, creating a lengthy highlight package, before joining Barcelona in 2013.
The 32-year-old Neymar won three league titles, along with the Copa Libertadores, before deciding to move to Europe. Despite joining Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record transfer in 2017, the Brazilian star was unable to secure another Champions League trophy following his success at Barcelona in 2015. He later accepted a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal, but his time in the Middle East has been hampered by two serious injuries.
A serious knee ligament tear in October required surgery, and Neymar will not be able to play again this season as his rehabilitation continues in Riyadh. While his current contract at Al Hilal runs until 2025, Santos are keeping an eye on his situation, and club president Marcelo Teixeira stated that talks are now underway.
"The conversation (with Neymar) was very quick, but it's always quick conversations that have good effect," Teixeira told Football Espana.
"To come back and play here, he needs to recover well from injury. He will continue his experience in Saudi Arabia and then come back here."
While this may seem like a strange move to some, the superstar doesn't need to prove anything else to anybody, so a return back home to the place where his journey started only seems fitting.
