JACK WILSHERE is eyeing up a first senior managerial role as the boss of Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen, according to reports.

The former Arsenal and England midfielder, 32, has been head coach of the Gunners' U18s side since July 2022.

But now he is prepared to make the leap up to first-team management as he seeks a switch north of the border.

Earlier this week, Aberdeen sacked Barry Robson as the club sit eighth in the top flight and without a win in three games.

Peter Leven was named caretaker boss for their home match against champions Celtic this weekend while they search for a permanent replacement.

According to The Daily Record, Wilshere has applied for the position after 18 months of experience managing Arsenal's youth side.

However, his lack of time in coaching means he is "unlikely" to be appointed.

Ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon is the bookies' favourite to assume the role of Aberdeen chief.

Other names in the frame include former Sunderland and Stoke head coach Alex Neil, as well as legendary EFL manager Neil Warnock.

And the competition for the role looks set to leave Wilshere disappointed in his pursuit of the job.

It comes after he was recently interviewed to become the manager of MLS side Colorado Rapids.

The American club ended up appointing ex-Manchester United and Leeds assistant Chris Armas instead.

Wilshere led Arsenal's U18s to the FA Youth Cup final in his first season in charge, before they lost 5-1 to West Ham.
