Arsenal fans fume as players live up to famous meme and even commentator says it
The IT Crowd once joked 'Arsenal just try to walk it in'

Arsenal fans have fumed at their own team after they lived up to a famous meme - and even Lucy Ward joked about it.

The Gunners seemed to be trying to score the perfect goal against Nottingham Forest, before Gabriel Jesus squeezed the ball home. And Lucy Ward, who was on co-commentary for TNT Sports, joked Arsenal were trying to walk it in.

Arsenal 'walking it in' has been a joke online since the IT Crowd - a Channel 4 comedy - made light of the Gunners' inability to score. "'The thing about Arsenal is, they always try and walk it in' - Moss, IT Crowd," one fan joked.

"20 years later, and the thing about Arsenal is that they STILL always try and walk it in," a second replied. And a third responded: "Arsenal are such a meme. Literally trying to walk it in again. Just shoot ffs!"

"Commentator just said arsenal are trying to walk it in and I for one cannot believe it’s 2009 already," a fourth posted. And another added, paraphrasing the quote: "Thing about Arsenal is they always try and walk it in!"

Bukayo Saka quickly doubled the Gunners' lead in the 72nd minute, seven minutes after Jesus' opener. However, there was a scare in store for Arsenal when Taiwo Awoniyi rolled the ball past David Raya - setting up a grandstand finish.

Awoniyi had another massive chance minutes later, but the ball was smothered by Raya. Mikel Arteta's side held on, closing the gap to Liverpool at the summit of the Premier League.
