Have we all calmed down from the big breaking news yet?

Hopefully Liverpool fans are beginning to come to terms with the shock news that Jurgen Klopp is leaving at the end of the season.

The German has worked wonders at Anfield since he arrived in 2015 - from winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and the League Cup during his super successful spell.

But while we all know about his achievements from the dugout, we decided to take a look at his family life. After all, one of the reasons he is departing the famous Merseyside club is that he is “running out of energy” and his desire is to lead a more “normal life”.

Klopp, 56, is a father to a son called Marc who he had during his first marriage to a woman called Sabine. His boy used to play for his former club Borussia Dortmund but retired in 2015 because of injury concerns.

However, the legendary manager went on to marry his second wife, Ulla Sandrock, after meeting her while she was a waitress during Munich’s Oktoberfest in 2005.

The charity worker is affectionately known as The First Lady of Bundesliga in Germany and her selfless acts include being a teacher and hospital staffer in Nairobi for three years. She is also a children's novelist whose first book was called 'Tom and the Magic Football'.

Ulla has also been hugely popular in Liverpool and while Klopp brought the team their first Premier League title in 30 years, she was praised for handing out food vouchers to staff at Waitrose for their efforts during the pandemic.

Klopp even credited her for persuading him to sign a contract extension at the club until 2026 – despite him now going back on this.

At the time, he said: “The most important contract in my life I signed is the one with Ulla. That's where it started again. We sat in the kitchen at the table and Ulla said, 'I can't see us leaving in 2024.'

“What is very important and is probably the most important – because I could not work against that and wouldn't want to work against it – is that my family, in this case especially Ulla, she just loves it here.

“If she would say, 'Honestly, I love the football and I love watching it but I actually want to go home', then we would go, that's the truth. She started it and here we are.”

The pair have no children together but Ulla has a son called Dennis and last year he became a father for the first time aged 35.

Klopp said it was a “blessing” to become a grandad and he joked: ”I already look like a grandad and now I am one. Everything is good.

“Mum is good, dad is good and baby is doing good as well. It’s a long time ago that we were in that role to be honest, but I can tell you it’s like riding a bike.

"It's just beautiful. The most beautiful thing I have experienced in the last 30 years."
