- Phillips to leave City
- West Ham to take him on loan with no obligation to buy
- Juventus beaten to the punch
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Athletic reports that the Hammers have agreed a deal with City to sign Phillips on a short-term deal for the remainder of the season. The England international has been limited to just 31 appearances since signing for the club from Leeds in 2022 for a fee of £45m ($57m), and personal terms are not expected to be a problem, with the Irons covering his full wage.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
City have been in Abu Dhabi in a warm-weather training camp ahead of this Friday's clash with Tottenham in the FA Cup and Phillips is returning to England with the squad. Juventus have been exploring a deal to sign the midfielder, but have not reached an agreement with City.
DID YOU KNOW?
Phillips emerged as one of the best holding midfielders in the country during his time with Leeds and has won 31 caps for England, playing in every game as they reached the European Championship final in 2021. He played six minutes in the Three Lions' last fixture against North Macedonia, as Gareth Southgate has retained faith in his ability.
WHAT NEXT FOR PHILLIPS?
Phillips will hope to get back to regular football at the London Stadium as he bids to make his way into England's squad for Euro 2024 at the end of the season.
