Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola was handed The Best men's head coach award Monday after his 2023 treble win with the English side.
WHAT HAPPENED?
This is Guardiola's first win, despite numerous nominations, since the awards began in 2017. It follows his brilliant treble-winning season with Manchester City in 2023, where they claimed the UEFA Champions League, a Premier League title and the FA Cup.
THE BIG PICTURE:
Man City were the most dominant side in club football in 2023, and showed it at every level and in every tournament they played in. From European competition to English football, Guardiola and Co. were the most impressive side all season. The Spaniard has brought in key cornerstone pieces to the club while also integrating young talent into the team, allowing for versatility across the board between youth and experience.
Inter Milan's Simone Inzaghi, Celtic and Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou, Napoli's Luciano Spalleti and Barcelona's Xavi were also finalists for the award.
DID YOU KNOW
Guardiola made 42 caps for the Spanish national team from 1992 to 2001, scoring five goals.
WHAT NEXT FOR GUARDIOLA
The Manchester City boss will look to run his treble-winning season back, as his squad sits second in the Premier League - just two points behind Liverpool in first. However, both the FA Cup and the UCL come first, with the former just a few days away.
City take on Spurs Friday, January 26 as they look to continue in the tournament and then they return to Europe on February 13 against FC Copenhagen.
