Man Utd 'have Jadon Sancho plan' after Borussia Dortmund dealt transfer issue

Jadon Sancho is closing in on a return to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester United.

Manchester United hope Jadon Sancho can restore some of his value on loan at Borussia Dortmund ahead of a summer sale to fund the next stage of Erik ten Hag's rebuild, according to reports. Dortmund don't have the option to make Sancho's move permanent at the end of the season, but his Red Devils career looks to be over.

The 23-year-old winger is nearing a return to Germany less than three years after landing at Old Trafford in an exciting £73million transfer.

He arrived at United as one of Europe's highest-rated young talents in the same conversation as Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.

But his disastrous return to Manchester, having left Manchester City's academy for Dortmund as a teenager, has seemingly come to a fitting end.

After over four months of exile as punishment for publicly challenging Ten Hag's authority, Sancho will be playing the second half of the season in the Bundesliga rather than on the Carrington academy pitches.

However, Dortmund can't afford to make Sancho's return permanent, opting against including a buy option in his contract.

The German giants will pay United a minimum loan fee of £3.5m, with performance-related add-ons potentially increasing that outlay.

But Sancho's £250,000-a-week wages have derailed Dortmund's chances of a permanent deal. United are expected to contribute towards a chunk of them during his loan.

The Red Devils hope Sancho can rediscover his best form at the Westfalenstadion, where he shone between 2017 and 2021 before leaving for Premier League football.

However, that is with the view of recouping a significant percentage of his £73m price in the summer to help fund the first transfer window overseen by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

Dortmund had been completing warm-weather training in Marbella during the Bundesliga's winter break but returned to Germany on Tuesday.

There is optimism that Sancho will link up with his former club on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's clash against Darmstadt.

Sancho has watched United endure a dismal campaign and he enters Dortmund while Edin Terzic's side are in a rut of their own.

The Black and Yellow are languishing in fifth in the Bundesliga, 15 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, winning none of their last six games in all competitions.

They will hope Sancho's arrival injects life into their season, which does involve a Champions League last-16 tie against PSV Eindhoven after topping the 'Group of Death' ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United.
