Manchester City ace Jack Grealish's family "feared they were being held hostage" in a home burglary that saw them robbed of more than £1million worth of goods.

England winger Grealish was away on duty with the Premier League champions at Everton when the burglary is understood to have taken place on Wednesday. A source close to the family told The Sun: "The family are really shaken. The gang took a lot of watches and jewellery."

The same source went on to say the family first feared "they could be facing a hostage situation or worse." It's understood the invaders made off with seven figures worth of prized possessions but that nobody was harmed in the raid.

It's understood girlfriend Sasha Attwood, Grealish's mother and father, his grandmother, two sisters and brother were all at the 20-acre property and hit panic buttons after realising the robbery was taking place. Grealish, 28, and partner Sasha moved into the £5.6m estate in October 2022.

It appears the robbers in question intentionally targeted the home when they knew Grealish would be away with Pep Guardiola's squad. Man City team-mate Kevin De Bruyne recently saw his Belgium home burgled by thugs while he was travelling to Saudi Arabia for the FIFA Club World Cup.

A Cheshire Police statement read: "At around 9.50pm on Wednesday December 27 police were called to reports of a burglary. The caller reported that a number of items had been stolen.

"Officers supported by police dogs and National Police Air Service were deployed and searches were conducted in the local area but there was no trace of the suspects.

"No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police."

Champions League-winner Grealish is the latest Premier League star to be targeted by thieves after the home of West Ham defender Kurt Zouma was burgled earlier in December. Twelve months earlier, Chelsea's Raheem Sterling flew home from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to be with his family after his Surrey property was raided.
