- USMNT star to leave MLS
- Bees fear losing Ivan Toney in January
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to Fernando Esquivel, the Bees are buzzing over Vazquez. Despite having England international Ivan Toney returning to the pitch from suspension in January, they're ready to put pen to paper over a deal for Vazquez. FC Cincinnati are also backing their striker's European ambitions, acknowledging their support of a transatlantic move.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Vazquez played a pivotal role in getting FC Cincinnati to the Eastern Conference semifinals of the playoffs, and helping hand them a 2023 MLS Supporters' Shield. The 25-year-old striker had a breakout year in 2022, just missing out on a roster spot at the Qatar FIFA World Cup. Brentford previously voiced interest in Vazquez, but now, the English Premier League side are set to enter negotiations as speculation about superstar Toney's future continues to circulate.
DID YOU KNOW?
Vazquez played for Atlanta United from 2017-2019 under now-Inter Miami boss Tata Martino.
WHAT NEXT FOR VAZQUEZ
The transfer window opens January 1 and the USMNT striker will look to complete a move as fast as possible. The Bees have matches on the 5th, 20th and 31st - all being potential debut opportunities for the American. However, nothing is certain until that pen is put to paper.
