WHAT HAPPENED?
Inter are close to finalising a deal with Belgian giants Club Brugge to sign Canadian winger Buchanan on a five-year deal in the January transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The 24-year-old, who can play as a right winger as well as a right full-back, was left out of Brugge's squad in their 6-1 win over RWDM in the Belgian league on Friday. He is expected to make a move to Inter within the first week of January.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Premier League champions Manchester City were previously linked with a move for the player and the club were reportedly prepared to pay a sum of £50 million. The Canadian international has a contract with Blauw-Zwart until 2025 and he has made it clear to them that he won't stay at the club beyond his current deal.
DID YOU KNOW?
Buchanan moved to Belgium from MLS side New England Revolution in 2021 and won the Belgian Pro League in his debut season. In the current campaign, he has scored three goals and provided four assists in 20 matches across all competitions.
WHAT NEXT FOR TAJON BUCHANAN?
Brugge could agree to Inter's proposal of letting the player leave on loan with an obligation to buy him next summer provided the Serie A giants pay a sizeable amount of loan fee. Inter consider Buchanan to be a direct replacement for Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado who recently underwent surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
