Bayern Munich are all in! Harry Kane's club record £82m transfer fee could be broken as Die Roten step up approach for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo

Bayern Munich are reportedly willing to break their transfer record to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

WHAT HAPPENED?
The German giants recruited Harry Kane from Tottenham for £82 million ($100m) in the summer, making the England captain their most expensive transfer of all time. However, according to Spanish outlet Sport, the German giants are prepared to top the Kane fee to sign Barca defender Araujo. The club's sporting director, Christoph Freund, admitted conversations were taking place with the Uruguayan international but the Bundesliga outfit are not yet optimistic of persuading the 24-year-old to join them.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Kane swapped Tottenham for Bayern earlier this season and since then the 30-year-old has scored 22 goals in 19 games. The German giants are looking to be a force on the European stage once more and if Araujo, whose contract at Camp Nou expires in 2026, was signed, that would be a statement of intent from Thomas Tuchel's side.

Sport add Araujo has a whopping €1 billion (£857,000,000 million) release clause and while nobody will pay that, Barca may not be able to refuse an offer upwards of £82m given their precarious finances.

WHAT NEXT FOR BOTH TEAMS?
The January transfer window is just a few weeks away from opening and both teams may be on the look out for potential signings, along with possible offers for their players. Negotiations are likely to continue on the player side before a figure big enough to gazump Kane's fee is actually put forward by Bayern.
