Messi could have joined Milan

Former AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has revealed he tried to lure Lionel Messi to the Rossoneri.
Italy and Milan great Maldini, who was technical director of the Rossoneri from June 2019 until this summer, told "Poretcast": "For 10 days we tried to bring Messi to Milan, but then we realised that it was impossible. Now it's late but a player like Messi is a spectacle for everyone to witness, when I read that he could go to Inter I was disappointed."
Maldini did not specify when Milan tried to sign Messi but it was likely during the summer of 2021 when Messi left Barca as a free agent. Financial challenges prevented the club from renewing his contract and the forward opted for Paris Saint-Germain.
Earlier this year, Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti admitted his club was among the teams that tried to sign Messi when the Argentina captain's contract with Barca came to an end in 2021.
Both Milan clubs could not compete with PSG, that won the race to sign Messi.
