Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been spotted visiting second-tier Spanish side Eldense amid talks of a potential takeover.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper is still without a club after departing Old Trafford earlier this summer. It is thought the Spaniard turned down advances to move to Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

According to reports from Onda Cero, De Gea is said to have met with Eldense current president, Pascual Perez, to discuss plans moving forward, with a potential role in a takeover on the table. Eldense, who currently sit 11th in the Segunda Division, have enjoyed a rapid rise over the last few years.

Wanting to ensure the club moves into the right hands as Perez seeks to step aside, a recent statement by the club read: "Perez assures that, before leaving the presidency, he will do everything possible so that the replacement of the oldest club in the province of Alicante is in good hands for the proper functioning of the entity and the continuity of the ambitious project that he started three years ago. seasons in Tercera RFEF."

The former United goalkeeper is said to be intrigued by the possibility of helping the club, but it is not yet clear whether that could involve a presidential or ownership role as things stand.

There had been talk of De Gea making a stunning comeback to United, especially given goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to be absent for several weeks during the Africa Cup of Nations. Amid growing speculation, the goalkeeper posted a cryptic message on social media, doing little to quash rumours.
