Real Madrid are maintaining a watching brief for Chelsea captain Reece James.
Mundo Deportivo says Real chiefs see the fullback as a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.
James has just returned from long-term hamstring injury and there's hope he will start Monday's clash with Tottenham.
Real will resume their scouting of James as they consider putting together an offer for the England international.
James is a on a deal to 2028 and was named Blues captain at the start of the season.
However, the pull of Real Madrid will turn his head, despite his loyalty to the Blues.
