WHAT HAPPENED?
The Premier League champions are demanding around £50 million ($61m) for the struggling midfielder, The Mirror claims. Phillips, 27, was signed from Leeds in the summer of 2022 for an initial fee of £42m ($52m), meaning the club expects to make an £8m ($10m) profit from his sale.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The England international has failed to break into City's first team since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium. Phillips made just 12 Premier League appearances in his debut season with Pep Guardiola's team, starting just two of those. He has been involved in three matches in the top-flight this term, all as a substitute.

Despite his struggles, Phillips is said to have a few clubs interested in signing him. Liverpool, Newcastle and Bayern Munich are all said to be considering making January offers to take him away from City.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Phillips will likely watch on from the sidelines as City take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
