Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi could be reunited in new high-profile transfer plan

Lionel Messi could soon be reunited with Luis Suarez as Inter Miami boss Gerardo Martino has confirmed their intention to sign him.

Messi and Suarez formed a formidable trio with Neymar at Barcelona between 2014 and 2017. Together MSN helped fire the Catalan giants to a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble under Luis Enrique.

They've all since gone their separate ways, with Messi linking back up with Neymar at PSG before heading stateside this summer. David Beckham's MLS side then began getting the Barca band back together, signing both Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

And that reunion will rise to four if they can get their way on Suarez, who is set to be a free agent at the end of this year having cut his contract with Brazilian side Gremio 12 months short.

Miami tried and failed to sign him earlier this year, but he's now in Martino's plans for next season - at least one version of them, that is.

He revealed at a press conference: "Within our analysis of the upcoming season, and the needs we may have, we have an analysis with Luis and an analysis without Luis.

"So when the moment arrives to make Suarez's situation with respect to Inter Miami official, we'll be prepared to go in the corresponding direction."

Suarez has made no secret of his desire to play alongside Messi again, so it would be a surprise if he isn't playing in pink in 2024. "With Messi, we dream of retiring together", he previously told the Uruguayan TV show Punto Penal.

"It was something that we always planned when we were at Barcelona. And from one year to the next I went to Atletico and he went to PSG.

"We dreamed of it and we talked about it that after Barcelona we would go to the United States and nothing happened at the time.

"Now he made the decision to go there and from what you can see, he looks happy and we hope that at some point that possibility will occur."
