'When circumstances are favourable' - Barcelona vice-president Eduard Romeu hints at possible return to Camp Nou for Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi

Barcelona vice-president Eduard Romeu says the club will give Lionel Messi a real tribute, but refused to speculate on a possible return to the team.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Messi has been linked with a move back to Barcelona ever since he first left to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. However, the Argentina hero opted to join Inter Miami in the summer instead of returning to his former team.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
With the MLS season set to finish at the end of the year, the prospect of Messi going back to Barca on loan has emerged again, especially as Inter Miami have been ruled out of competing in the MLS playoffs once the regular campaign is over. However, the move has been deemed impossible due to Barcelona's continued financial woes.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will, at least, likely be given a tribute in front of the Barcelona fans once Camp Nou is open again and Romeu is confident it will happen.
WHAT THEY SAID
"The only thing I would like, and the day and time will surely come, when the circumstances are favourable, is that we can pay him a great tribute," he told he told L'Esportiu. "He deserves it and we're really looking forward to it.
"The rest is a matter of speculation, we don't even talk about this subject, because we have already talked about it too many times."
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Messi may be involved for Argentina when they take on Paraguay and Peru in World Cup qualifying over the next week.
