Alejandro Garnacho told his team-mates of his transfer wish in pre-season
Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho reportedly told his team-mates he wanted the club to sign a target man striker before the Red Devils signed Rasmus Hojlund.
The £72million signing of Hojlund was just what Erik ten Hag and United fans were crying out for, but it's said that Garnacho also received his wish. After tracking the striker for months, United finally completed the signing of a new number nine.
Hojlund, 20, arrived on the back of a breakout campaign at Atalanta in Serie A, with the Denmark international enjoying a purple patch that saw him net 12 goals in 16 games for club and country in November and December last year, putting the Manchester outfit on red alert.
While it's early in his Old Trafford career, Hojlund impressed against Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion in the league before scoring his first goal for the club against Bayern Munich in the 4-3 midweek Champions League defeat.
And the 6'3ft striker could be just what Ten Hag and his players have been missing. According to The Athletic, during downtime at United's hotel base in San Diego in pre-season, Garnacho told team-mates that he wanted the club to sign a striker who would attack crosses in the box. And on the face of it, Garnacho has got his wish in Hojlund.
Rasmus Hojlund celebrates his goal against Bayern Munich
Garnacho is yet to start alongside Hojlund after the Argentina international started United's first two games of the season, with Hojlund missing both with injury. And while Hojlund is named in Ten Hag's starting line-up at Burnley on Saturday, Garnacho has to make do with a place on the bench with Marcus Rashford operating in his favoured left-wing role.
But the pair both look central to United's future and it's easy to see how the two would be able to play off each other with Hojlund's goal against Bayern and disallowed goal against Brighton showing he knows exactly where to position himself in the penalty box.
