Cristiano Ronaldo offers hotel to Moroccan quake victims as Gary Lineker leads praise

Cristiano Ronaldo's Morocco hotel has opened it's doors to victims of the Moroccan earthquake - drawing praise from Gary Lineker.

The 6.8-magnitude earthquake originated in the High Atlas mountain range with BBC News reporting that more than 2100 people have lost their lives after a second quake measured at 4.9.

Al-Nassr forward Ronaldo owns the Pestana CR7 Marrakech which offers rooms from £147 per night but has now adapted to host those who are in need with many displaced from their homes.

Spanish outlet AS reported that the 174-room luxury hotel has offered shelter to victims as the sporting world helps out.

Reading the news on social media, Lineker replied with two clapping emojis: "Well played @Cristiano."

A fan said of Ronaldo: "Absolutely amazing human being is Cristiano. One of the few that always gives generously and with his heart."

A second added: "Cristiano has a heart of gold."

The news of the hotel's opening comes after the Moroccan national team donated blood to hospital and their captain spoke out.

He said: “We are going through a difficult time for all our fellow citizens. It’s time to help each other save as many lives as possible. My condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one.”

Ronaldo, 38, posted snaps of himself with partner Georgina Rodriguez as well as his eldest son Cristiano Jr back in 2019.

The trio posed in hardhats as the hotel was built to his designs, ahead of the grand opening in 2020.

The venue is located a short distance from the old town in Marrakesh, with the city having a population of over 900,000.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said: "My thoughts are with everyone affected by the terrible earthquake in Morocco last night. The UK stands ready to support our Moroccan friends."

The British Red Cross has also launched an emergency appeal, which can be found here.
